Hopefully you’ve got your Christmas shopping finished already – I hate to think of you stressed and scurrying about during the last few days leading up to Christmas. But if that’s you… please allow me to help!

Here are my current top reads related to pregnancy and parenting – perfect gift ideas for new moms and moms-to-be:

1. The Pregnancy Companion: A Faith Filled Guide for Your Journey to Motherhood by Jessica Wolstenholm and Dr. Heather Rupe

2. Secrets of the Baby Whisperer: How to Calm, Connect, and Communicate with Your Baby by Tracy Hogg and Melinda Blau

3. The Wonder Weeks: How to stimulate your baby’s mental development and help him turn his 10 predictable, great, fussy phases into magical leaps forward by Hetty Van de Rijt and Frans Plooij

4. Loving the Little Years: Motherhood in the Trenches by Rachel Jankovic

5. Sacred Parenting: How Raising Children Shapes Our Souls by Gary Thomas

6. Loving Our Kids On Purpose: Making A Heart-To-Heart Connection by Danny Silk and Bill Johnson

Also, just so you know, I listed these books in the order that I’d recommend reading them, not by rank of my favorite. They are all my favorites… for different reasons.

Dear friends, I really enjoy reading books on parenting and motherhood, but I’m still very much at the beginning of my learning journey with it all. Do you have any favorite parenting books that you’d recommend?

This is such a great list, Adriel! I discovered “The Baby Whisperer” when Nya was about 10 months. While I don’t agree with all Hogg says on breastfeeding, I like a lot of her tips on sleep and creating routines. I also like the “Wonder Weeks” a lot.

just out of curiosity, what about BFing? i actually can’t remember reading much on BFing. i guess because i was reading it more for the sleep and communication stuff so maybe i didn’t pay as much attention to that part…

do you have any favorite parenting books? i’d be quite interested to hear your list too!!

I love the Baby Whisperer. A mom of 5 recommended it to me and I just liked the way she considers each child a bit differently and with different temperments. One size doesn’t necessarily fit all.

I also wrote a post on gifts for moms:

I am really enjoying “The Pregnancy Companion”.

Another one of our favorite’s is “Parenting By the Book” by John Rosemond. It’s a Biblical approach to parenting. He’s kind of a straight-forward, tell it like it is author. But he has a lot of good advice and a lot of other helpful books on parenting.

Thanks, this is awesome. I’m in dire need. I’m pregnant with my first baby and looking for lots of perspectives. A friend recommended the baby whisperer to me and I’m so thankful she did. It’s more in the middle of the spectrum – still kind and loving, but with boundaries – and it’s exactly what I was needing. I’m looking forward to checking out your recommendations.

yeah, i like it for that reason too. it’s gentle, but structured… and still encourages being intuitive and responsive.

congrats on your baby coming! SUCH a special time! 🙂

Somehow in the Christmas craziness I missed this. So honored to have made the list! I love The Baby Whisperer and Sacred Parenting. On another note, Sacred Marriage is also great!

    Thanks again!

Thanks for posting this – I have been looking for books. Just found out I’m pregnant with my first….ever. And I’m a little….nervous. Trusting in God above all else, and knowing that this is obviously his plan. But knowing that I’m not 100% ready. I eagerly look forward to reading your blog.
