Dirty, with 742 ants on the side

I imagined that having my husband out of town for eight days might mean that I’d get lots of writing done. I was very much looking forward to having quiet evenings on my own, to write or read without the TV buzzing in the background. (As much as I would miss my man of course.)

But being a single mom of two babies has kicked. me. in. the. bum.

Did I mention jet that Judah cut his first two teeth this week? Or that it’s been raining all day, everyday? (Hello cooped-up toddler.)

I thought that I was tired before—exhausted even—but it pales in comparison to how I’m feeling now: so completely and utterly DONE. (Is it too dramatic to use all caps?? *sigh*)

Last week I was “late” with my Project 52 photo since we had been away camping, and this week I wanted to actually write something to go along with my photos… but as much as I want to write I just can’t. If I don’t go to bed now I might lose my mind. And I’m semi-desperate not to get behind again.

So instead I’ll just say this…

Camping was great. Awesome even.

It rained. A lot. Which wasn’t as bad as I would have thought. (It made the heat more bearable.)

The boys had a ball. And got super dirty (muddy) every day.

We all slept poorly and ate well.

There were far too many ants in our tent and stars in the sky.

We had no phone or internet or urgent “to do’s”. (Nice.)

And before we knew it we were home again, clean, dry, plugged in, and drowning in nine loads of dirty, muddy laundry.

Oh, and Ryan had to ant-bomb the car because a bazzillion of them (742?) took up residence there while we were out bush. (Must have been seeking refuge from the rain? ) Thank God we didn’t see them until we were unpacking the car when their little hiding spots were unearthed and hundreds of them scattered. Hundreds. Not sure I’d have been able to cope with the two-hour car ride home had I known. (Freak. Out.)

After the ants were obliterated Ryan got on a plane the next morning and flew to the other side of the country for eight days of meetings. (Hello March, you are insane.)

Good times, friends. Good times.

Unfortunately I didn’t take many photos (and surprise, surprise I’m not in a single one of them). But here are my favorites from the week:

Oh, and this one just makes me giggle:

Dear friends, when’s the last time you went camping? Or maybe just got really, really dirty? Or had your life threatened by an ant invasion?

P.S. For not having any time/energy to write, I sure did end up writing a lot. ha!

Adriel, did you actually COUNT all those ants, or are you just guessing? smile? I remember taking Aaron camping in 1978 (when all the GA babies were 2 ish). We dragged him to Yosemite and we went tent camping; tried to keep him clean. really. There was a firepit nearby and one morning he crawled into it, wading through the ashes. what a sight!
so glad you had all the ‘free’ time to tell us your story.
    love.

Ohhh I love camping. Sounds like you had quite the adventure. The only time I am able to somewhat tolerate any kind of insect is while camping. When in my own home….I freak out. I become the typical girl screaming over a little thing like a spider. You should of seen our kitchen and dinning room last spring….I bet we had you beat with the number of ants. 🙂

It looks like you guys had a BLAST! Noah went camping for the first time last summer and he had a blast. The dirt, the mud, the outdoorsyness of all of it. I’m not a big “camper.” I’d prefer to stay out for a bit and then go back to my warm bed. 🙂
