Hi, Adriel. My name is Shakeeka Redfearn. I live in the state of South Carolina. I stumbled upon your blog while my husband and I were doing a DIY for my son’s toddler loft bed. However, I was encouraged when I began browsing around your other links. Three years ago we lost one of our twin boys to twin to twin transfusion. Being a Christian that has loved and been committed to God for the last 13 years, death of one of my babies was a hard pill to swallow. I said all that because I felt like I was developing a subtle anger for God because my prayers, my husband’s prayers and the people that were interceding on our behalf were not answered. Thankfully, I know that in order to draw closer to God I have to pray and study His Word. After two years, we decided to have another baby. Sadly, I miscarried with this one…on the exact same day we lost our son. My heart wasn’t as broken this time, not because of lack of love, but I began to wonder more about life and its disappointments. I began to question God’s promises that maybe he meant those for the “certain” groups being addressed in the Bible. I found myself being as a plank drifting in the middle of the ocean. Waiting. Waiting for someone, anyone to save me from all of life’s emotional despairs. Praise God. Although it seems to have been a long time coming my heart is open to the direction of his love again. I know that he is the creator of life and that satan’s evil forces do everything in their power to try to prevent us from experiencing such a love as the love of Jesus. I am thankful to come out of such a darkness because although I appeared solid and strong on the outside, I felt as if I was crumbling on the inside. Although I never “turned” away from God, I know there is much more abundance and joy to experience by being deeply in love with him. Our family, my husband, two boys, and I, are welcoming a little within the next five weeks. I thank you for your encouraging words and your ability to stand on the love of God so that Christian moms that have battled the “whys” of this life have an extra place to help rebuild their peace.

Thanks for your message and sharing your story here. You’ve experienced heartbreak upon heartbreak and I’m so sorry for your loss and pain. Huge congratulations on your new little one and I pray God covers your family with so much grace as you process it all—the hope and promise as well as the pain. x

Hi Dorothy. We actually just used the existing kitchen that was already in there. We painted all the cabinets white, painted the little fridge a mint green color, tiled the backsplash, and replaced the bench top with a wooden one. We got the wooden bench top from Bunnings—the ones offered at IKEA were much more expensive and were thicker/more solid (so heavier). And no, unfortunately we don’t have a bathroom. That would be an awesome addition but it wasn’t in our budget (and we also didn’t’ want to lose our closet space since we were living in it!). Best of luck with your van! We had a lot of fun fixing it up—hope you do too. 🙂

Thank you so much for your book. My daughter recently had a miscarriage. I read about your (then) upcoming book on Jennifer Duke Lee’s blog right after her loss. I checked out your blog and ended pre-ordering a book from Amazon for her and the kindle version for myself. She is loving the book but asked me about the journal. She thought she had read that you would get a journal with the pre-order. Oops! Did I need to do something to get that for her?

Hi Luaane. I’m sorry I missed your message here! Not sure what happened to my notifications but I just discovered a slew of comments on my blog that I never was notified of.

First of all, I’m so sorry for your daughter’s loss (and yours). I’m grateful to JDL for sharing at just the right time.

Did you order before Mother’s Day? If so, please shoot me an email (instead of here) with your order confirmation and I can personally just email those to you. They were a bonus gift for all those who pre-ordered by May 1st… but then my publisher kindly extended the bonuses through Mother’s Day. Let me know!

Dear Adriel, I just heard you on Huntly Street. Your story resonated with me as well as it served as another confirmation from God as to his next steps for me and so many Christian women. I too lost a baby 19 years ago at 34 weeks. Oh, how I understood the feeling that you spoke about and how hard it was to see or be around all the pregnant moms during my loss. Today as I battle through the ups and downs and opposition, lack of support to become a Creighton Model Fertility care practitioner to help women understand what their body is saying and how to know that even before a possible miscarriage. Listening to you was a reason to keep going. Trusting that God has a woman out there that I need to meet. Bless your heart for using your pain to minister to us.

Hi Adriel, I have just come across your blog and just wanted to say thank you. I am glad there are people like you in this world. I have experienced a heartbreaking journey of infertility, miscarriage and post natal anxiety but am on the other side of that with two gorgeous little boys. You, sharing your heart, is life changing. Thank you.

Hi Adriel, We emailed back in December 2019 about our group putting together some Clean Birth Kits. We have since then made them and are ready to ship them out. I have attempted to email you a few times and have not heard back. I apologize for posting here, I thought maybe the email was having issues. I saw that you were active on this page so I thought I would attempt contact. We look forward to mailing out about 500 birth kits! Thank you for all you are doing!
    Jenn
