Getting away with one child at a time
As a mom of two littles it can be a challenge to build in alone time with each of my children. But whenever I do, I’m reminded just how much they need it. (And how much I need it.)
When it’s just the two of us we have the time and space and capacity to connect and enjoy each other in ways that are impossible when we’re sharing each other.
At 16 months old (when I was 30 weeks pregnant with Judah), Levi got to travel with me to New Zealand for a week where I had been invited to speak.
It was a really sweet time for the two of us to be together, and though I highly doubt he’ll have memories from that trip, I absolutely know it was a bonding time for the two of us.
A weekend in Sydney
Last month I got to have my own little bonding time away with Judah when I took him to Sydney for a long weekend.
The main reason for our trip was so that I could see some friends visiting from Denmark that I haven’t seen in five years.
But as I got there I realized it was so much more.
It was a full four days of friends and family and feasting and sights and Ergos and strollers and long, long walks.
But more than anything I had this underlying sense of “it’s you and me, kid” with my sweet little man. We adventured together, took in the city together, and saw the world through one set of eyes instead of two.
In every way it was incredibly refreshing.
Like Levi’s trip to New Zealand, Judah won’t remember our “mama and me” weekend away. But I will.
I always will.
Dear friends, do you try and make it a point to do special things with your children individually?
p.s. Don’t miss your last chance to win a Baby K’Tan baby carrier/wrap if you haven’t entered already. Giveaway ends soon!

I have lived in several cities and towns in 4 different continents. There is nowhere better than Sydney. I write this post looking at the Harbour bridge, sitting in my balcony at night. What a privilege!
