you make it burst

My last post was a gush about the baby… so I thought it might be time for a little gush about this kid too – my darling 22-month-old, Levi.

Why hello, heart-breaker.

The other day I was watching him play and listening to him talking to himself and the words flashed into my mind: “My heart can’t contain you. You make it burst.”

Seriously.

I’m so in love with this kid that some days I feel like my heart aches a little… you know – aches with love.

He is so hilarious right now. Mr. Personality in full effect.

Nearly everything he does makes us giggle.

Yes, he’ll be two soon…. and he’s a normal toddler, complete with moments of tenderness and moments of defiance.

But he’s an incredible individual. I couldn’t be more proud of him.

Just the other day I was saying to Ryan, that “seeing Levi at nearly two years old gives me such confidence in our ability as parents.” Because really, he’s just turning out to be such a lovely little person.

I know that we can’t take all the credit for that – it’s a combination of him and us and all the other special people in his life. (Mostly just him.)

But really, I couldn’t be more proud.

Oh wait, I said that already.

He’s so good with Judah.

And he’s also very good at stealing the show.

(a little peek at our awesome family photos by tiffany of red owl photography)

He never ceases to amaze us.

Have you ever seen a toddler of his age instruct an entire house full of adults to get their groove on? Since Levi entered our world our friends cannot visit without ending the night with a dance party directed by the shortest guy in the room. Even the non-dancers dance. And laugh. And love it. And talk about it again later.

This child breathes music.

And he is music for our soul.

Love this little dude.

So. Much.

Dear friends, it can be easy to focus on the challenges of raising toddlers… but what do you love most about your toddler right now?

I love how he balances moments of cuddling with those stubborn streaks of independence. He has his own ideas on how to approach a problem, and I nearly burst with pride when he finds his solution. His mental abilities, his compassion, his smile…*melt*

I know just what you mean. Abigail is so funny these days! I am amazed at her personality and the things she things up to do. I love that pretend play is becoming really big right now. 🙂

Yeah! So cute!! Levi’s favorite pretend play at the moment is playing “drill”. He picks up a stick or pencil or a bobby pin (or whatever he can find) and sticks it into any hole that he can find making an “eeeeee!” sound. He loves “fixing” things – just like his daddy. 😉 It’s so cute!!

Oh my that family photo is perfect. I love this age… 22 months. Wonderful age of having their own opinions and personality. But then there are still daily glimpses of the little baby, snuggles and hugs.

Oh Nessa, that’s so true! They are so grown up and yet still just babies! I really do love this age, as hard as it is in some moments. *sigh* And yes, isn’t that photo just perfect?! 😉

I love this post, Adriel!!! I am so enjoying toddlerhood! I absolutely love watching Taran explore his surroundings, seeing which things interest him (brooms) and which do not. He is such a sweet gentle boy with a firecracker streak, and I have to admit that as much as I enjoy his hugs, kisses, dancing, sharing and book reading, I also love when he stands up for what he wants/thinks and shrieks about it. I hope he never loses that passion! 😉

I love your perspective Ashely! Sometimes it’s hard for me to remember that Levi’s “passion” is a good thing – especially when we’re mid-tantrum!!! But of course, deep down I know that it is and of course I love his spirit. 🙂
p.s. levi loves brooms too. 😉

I love this post! I know that love-ache well! 😉 You know, I am not going to lie… somtimes Aiden makes me a bit nutty with the tantrums, but I never find myself saying “ugh! toddlers!” I looove this age! Seeing them learn and grow and getting to know them bit by bit… so exciting! I even kind of like the tantrums once in a while. Admit it, sometimes they are funny! And we learn some of their preferences through these little outbursts, too!

And yes, Levi is a total heart-breaker… absolutely darling! 🙂

I am sitting here trying to think of the ONE thing Serenity does that I love, and it is impossible to choose just one. She is my fiery little red-head, and she knows what she wants. Her personality amazes me and her smile and out of the blue kisses steal my breath. Sometimes she can be heard in her room telling her dolls that it’s time for bites, other times you hear her counting the Tinkerbells on her wall, seriously counting, she can get as high as twenty now. Playing patty cake and letting her sing it is awesome! Her “roll it up” sounds like “roll with it”, kills me every time. When she brings me a book and runs to the big girl bed she naps on, I always smile and say a silent prayer that her love of learning never ends. Her little sighs in the middle of the night, when I miss her too much and go steal her to come sleep with me, are worth more than anything in this world.

Thank you for this post, it really is amazing to look back over how much she has grown and how independent she is becoming (hopefully not too fast though). This was beautiful, and I love love love the picture of you all! Your boys are both absolutely beautiful!
