When do you know it’s time for baby’s first hair cut?
It’s no secret – my boy has many great attributes. Yes, he is clever. Yes, he is funny. Yes, he is observant. Yes, he is adventurous, Yes, he is sweet, determined, opinionated, outgoing, and fast-learning.
But he is also incredibly good looking… Those looong eye lashes, his plump little lips, his squishy cheeks, his faint dimples just under the eyes that are there whether he’s flashing that million-dollar grin or not, and those deep, dark eyes. (Gush mama, gush!)
And the hair. Ohhhhhh, the hair!
Levi has always had great hair. Since he was tiny it just grew in looking “right”. No strange bald spots, no disproportionate patches, no long, out-of-place bits. He just got really, really lucky in the hair department.
Which brings us to now… one of my very favorite things. These locks:
But I have to admit that perhaps it’s beginning to get a little out-of-control. He’s forever peeking through long strands of bags hanging down to mid-cheek, and I’m forever pushing them out of his eyes. If only they would stayed swooped to the side like they are in this photo… (I’d be lying to say I’m not totally smitten with his emo swoop.)
Problem is, they don’t. And since the idea of plastering my small child with copious amounts of hairspray isn’t appealing… I’m thinking it might be time for a little trim.
Oh, add to that the fact that three times in the last two days strangers have referred to him as a “she” despite his overalls, train shirt, brown sweater, and blue sneakers.
I’m beginning to think it might be time to say good-bye to my little Bieber Baby…
For the record, as soon as the camera comes out… some of the moves disappear. (Typical toddler, right??) If only I could have a way to capture our unfilmed moments of dance hilarity! But this take was pretty good… even complete with a pretty sweet ending. (Um, did I just made up the word “unfilmed”?)
Dear friends, what do you think? Time to clean-up this kid’s hair? Or should I just pull out the Aqua Net? (Kidding. I don’t use aerosol. heh heh.) When did you first cut your baby’s hair?
don’t want to say good-bye to my baby, baby, baby,

28 June 2011 at 3:12 amFirst off, I love his sock monkey top! Second, he is too cute with his dance moves and floppy hair. But I understand the need to cut when it’s always getting in little guy’s eyes. Just don’t make the same mistake we did — I accidentally butchered Q’s bangs when he moved and then we ended up buzzing his hair off. I was a wreck, but it grew back pretty quickly and now he’s due for another haircut. Probably a professional one this time.

30 June 2011 at 9:53 pmhaha, oh, your poor little Q! when i cut ryan’s hair for the first time we were just newlyweds… and it was a disaster! i was so humiliated and he didn’t even go and get it fixed right away since it didn’t bother him. then of course everyone wondered why he had such horrible hair and i had to tell them it was my fault. it was totally unavoidable!! i’ve never cut his hair since!! HOWEVER, i’m happy to report that i cut levi’s hair today and it looks great! 🙂 yay for redemption!! 🙂

28 June 2011 at 3:26 amI cut my little guy’s hair the first time when it was pretty long! He had adorable long hair, with these cute little curls on the side. I did get tired of people talking about “her long pretty red hair (actually more like strawberry blonde)” Lol! But don’t worry, just as much as you swoon over his locks now, you will swoon over his “little man” haircut. 🙂

28 June 2011 at 6:15 amDalton are going through this same dilemma with Isaiah. Some days his hair is amazing! Other’s…well…he goes back and forth from looking like “the Doc” on “Back to the Future” or a resident “Who” in “Whoville”. Both are pretty amazing but just not sure if I should let him have some memories of how awesomely cute he is without the hair getting all the attention? Maybe it’s not worth it. Our dream is to have some long surfer locks on our little boy – but the different layers of growth are making the whole project…interesting.

28 June 2011 at 10:57 amOh my gosh, that side sweep is so cute! My husband suggested that Niall might need a haircut for the first time today and I was so offended- I immediately snapped “No way!!! His hair is adorable!” I’m not cutting it until I absolutely have to 🙂

28 June 2011 at 2:07 pmOh my goodness, he is adorable!! Love how toddlers all act the same at this age! I just cut my 1.5 yr olds hair for the first time a couple of days ago and only trimmed her bangs! I love beautiful locks on them (even boys)! Maybe just trim his bangs too =P

28 June 2011 at 4:26 pmI see he gets his awesome dance moves from his mother! I think I’ll cry the first time I have to cut Xave’s hair…
Adriel @ The Mommyhood Memos
30 June 2011 at 9:58 pmi thought i’d cry too… but it was actually kind of fun. i think i allowed myself to be emotional and sappy about it during the week before, so by today when i finally did it i was “ready”. still, it IS the end of an era… another growing up milestone. can be a bitter-sweet pill to swallow!! and yes, he loves to dance with his mama. but seriously, you should see his daddy dance. now he has moves!! special moves, that is! 😉

28 June 2011 at 9:10 pmOH.SO.CUTE!!!!!!! We cut Robi’s hair around 12 months – the front grew longer, too, and kept getting in his eyes. I did a horrible job, so Z took him to a professional – and they cut off all the curls in the back. :(((( Yea, I knew that day was coming, but I was sure choking back the tears.

8 July 2011 at 9:23 amOh, that video was so sweet! You’re going to look at that in a year and wonder where all that time went and how much he’s changed. I love his little emo hairdo, though I definitely understand about the constant side sweeping. Be sure to post a picture when he does get a trim!

11 July 2011 at 5:32 amGood golly how did I miss this? Too cute! Aiden loved the video, hehe. He is the same way… I can never capture his best stuff on video, lol. Umm… Have you seen aiden’s crazy hair lately? Obviously I am an anti-cutting mama! Of course A has little curls that will likely not come back, so I will wait as long as possible! Levi really does have great hair 🙂
