you make me happy when skies are gray

3|52: sunshine

This week has been… interesting. I’ve had a tummy bug, which–in addition to holding me captive in my house–has left me tired, weak, and hungry. And we all know being tired, weak, and hungry leads to being irritable, impatient, and lethargic.

Not the best attributes to make for a sunny, happy mommy.

I’ve had many can-someone-please-take-the-kids-before-I-implode moments. A few why-can’t-babies-just-do-what-you-want moments. A few more why-are-toddlers-so-infuriating moments. And even a couple please-remind-me-why-I-wanted-to-be-a-stay-at-home-mom moments.

Thankfully my husband has been here to help with the boys before and after work, as well as talk me off the ledge when I’m complaining about the parts of my “job” that I don’t like and the fact that I want to jump ship.

But you know, even despite my less-than-stellar mothering over these last few days… my boys are as gorgeous and funny and lovable as ever:

In the midst of a stormy week, they’ve been both my rain and my sunshine.

They keep me grounded and remind me just how much I’m still growing up too.

They see my best and my not-so-best and still love me just where I’m at.

Oh how I love them right back.

In case you’re wondering, these photos were taken before I got sick. I had a friend over and so seized the rare opportunity to get in a photo with the boys while they were both happy, though I suppose by the time we took this one Levi had moved on a little, hence the blur and God-knows-what in his mouth.

But whatever, it’s my boys and their mama all in one photo so I like.

And for the record, the yellow and white matchy-matchy thing? Total coincidence. My husband dressed the boys (he normally just chooses whatever’s on the top of the stack in the drawer) and I dressed myself. So there. Coincidence.

What if you don’t believe me? Well then just give us a banjo, a tambourine, and a couple of spoons and call us the Booker Family Sunshine Band.

As much as these little dudes sometimes stretch me to my limits and leave me exhausted and frustrated, they are also my little rays of sunshine and really do make me happy when skies are gray.

And dang, they are cute. Just look at the littlest:

Dear friends, what has reminded you about the sunshine lately?

Love the photo of the three of you. Being sick is so hard. You are right… I feel like I am constantly getting a “grow-up” lesson as a mom.

A woman on the radio the other day was talking about stay at home moms and all the different job functions they perform. Somewhere she had come across some statistics about what it would cost to hire people to do all those different jobs and it was about $90,000 a year. That is the value of the day-to-day tasks that you perform for your family. But the input and the influence you are having on your precious boys, even in those not-so-great moments, is priceless! I know your heart is to leave an imprint of God’s love on this world and it begins with those two little cuties laying beside you. You’re doing a great job, and thanks so much for letting us be a part of your journey in an honest and real way. Hope you feel better soon!

Working on getting through my second pregnancy….I just started feeling more like myself and not so sick and tired (im 22 weeks). So I know how you must of felt this past week. I often feel terrible emotionally because I can’t play or have patients like I used too with my little girl but your right, a childs love is so unconditional it’s really amazing…..if only we all loved like little ones eh! 🙂 Beautiful picture so sweet!

Your boys are adorable! I had a couple of those moments this week with Ke’alohi and I being sick. My Project 52 post this week is about how motherhood is “mouthy” at http://www.lucasandmahina.com. Hope you can link me back!

Your children really are adorable…although the yellow wasn’t planned, it’s the perfect reflection of the joy that your family carries. You can sense it in all your photos.
Here’s to feeling better soon (tink, tink!!) 🙂

What beautiful pictures!! I love the blanket that you guys are laying out. Total sweetness! I hope you are feeling better. Being sick as a parent, especially a SAH parent is tough. We’re all entitled to those not-so-erfect days and feelings. Hang in there. 🙂
