I had high expectations:
We’d have twilight walks by the river.
There would be blankets spread out on grassy hills under tall pines.
Our shoulders would be golden from time spent playing games in the backyard.
A couple of date-nights with my handsome husband while mom and dad watched the kids, a few uninterrupted hours in my favorite coffee shop – just me, my books, and my writing.
When you only get to visit “home” from overseas every year-and-a-half it’s hard not to hope your time is perfect…. But let me tell you friends, it so wasn’t perfect…

p.s. Ahk! I forgot to post the Baby K’Tan winner! Sorry ladies. The lucky mama is #47 – Lindsey Whitney. (Drawn using random.org.) I hope you’ll love it Lindsey! Please send me your mailing address and I’ll forward it on to Tiny Little Elefants.

5 August 2012 at 5:36 amAdriel, I found your blog through an intragram post and after reading back a few pages I find your words hit home, big time! I have two girls, aged three and one, and your words about being a mum, challenges you face and many other things put a I-know-that-feeling smile on my face as I read. And I just had to tell you I know exactly how you feel about your holiday. We live in Norway and went home to Australia for a visit in January (my partner is Australian) and on our first morning I got sick. Then the girls got sick and had to go to the emergency room, then my partner got sick. We were there for three and a half weeks and were sick for about nine days. What a bummer. Our holiday was then pretty much how you described your after you got well – dashing from one meeting to another, and running some errands in between. We still had a lovely time though, but will probably put in a few extra days next time to allow for unexpected events like illness. I’m sorry I’m getting a bit carried away here, but it was just too funny to read about someone with a similar holiday experience to us. I’ll be checking in on your blog again. 🙂

5 August 2012 at 3:40 pmOh my goodness Inger, that sounds terrible!!! I’m sorry that your holiday didn’t go as planned. It would be a bummer for anyone… but ESPECIALLY for those of us traveling overseas to visit family since we don’t get to do it often.
